You're pregnant, and we're so happy for you! Your body is doing amazing things in the coming months, and it will change a lot as a result. Not only will your baby bump grow, but your breasts will also increase in size. After all, they begin preparing for breastfeeding right from the start of pregnancy. The milk ducts dilate, milk-producing cells develop, and the blood volume flowing through your breasts doubles during pregnancy. Tender breasts are often one of the first signs of pregnancy, at a time when there's still no sign of a baby bump. That's why you'll find out very early on: I need a new bra!
The perfect bra for pregnancy
What makes it special? Quite simply: perfect support with maximum flexibility. Your breasts will grow larger and heavier month by month, and eventually even week by week. They now need optimal support so you feel comfortable and avoid tension and back pain. That's why knowing your correct bra size is even more important now than before.
Finding the right size maternity bra
We recommend taking precise measurements no later than the beginning of the fourth month of pregnancy. See our nursing bra guide. We'll show you how to easily determine your size and find your measurements in our size chart . You should measure again around the 7th month and again shortly before giving birth. Once you've determined your cup size, you can decide whether you want a maternity bra with or without underwire and which style you prefer.
Elastic material and special support zones
For your maternity bra to provide the best possible support, it needs to enclose and support your breasts well. The right material plays a crucial role in this. It should be very stretchy so your breasts have enough room to grow in the bra for a while before you need a new size. Otherwise, you'll need a new bra every few weeks. That's why we advise against firm cups during pregnancy. Opt for elastic designs instead. Soft cup bras and bustiers are the perfect choice, as they offer your breasts maximum freedom to expand in all directions.
Despite its high elasticity, the material shouldn't be too loose, as it needs to provide sufficient support for your breasts. A wide underbust band, as well as wide side and back bands, help with this.
Greater flexibility thanks to multiple locking mechanisms
Not only will your breasts grow, but your ribcage also expands during pregnancy to make room for the baby. Therefore, not only will your cup size increase by up to two sizes, but your underbust measurement will also grow. Maternity bras typically offer more hook-and-eye closures than regular bras. We offer maternity bras with up to six hook-and-eye closures. This allows them to grow with your baby for a while before you need a new bra size.
For pregnancy and breastfeeding: Maternity bras with nursing opening
Especially towards the end of pregnancy, it's worth choosing bras with a nursing function. This way, you can continue wearing them perfectly after giving birth and you don't have to buy a whole new wardrobe. Nursing bras either have nursing clips that can be opened with one hand to fold down the cups individually and expose the breast for breastfeeding. The ultra-comfortable sleep nursing bras They don't require any clips at all. They have a crossed neckline, from which you can easily lift your breast to breastfeed your baby.
The basic maternity bra set
We recommend that you equip yourself with comfortable, supportive maternity bras early on. As soon as your doctor confirms your pregnancy, you should do some research and get an overview of what's available. Our tip: Get two well-fitting basic maternity bras that you can comfortably wear every day. For example, you'll find alluring maternity bras in particularly feminine styles with lace trim or other exciting details.
