Is your baby often restless, fussy, or colicky? Then swaddling might help. Swaddling involves wrapping babies snugly until they are about six months old. Swaddling provides warmth and security, making it easier for your little one to adjust to this new and exciting world. It restricts the baby's freedom of movement, reminding them of the familiar environment of the womb. The resistance also helps them develop a sense of their own body. Until now, they could move freely without touching anything. Life outside the womb is therefore initially unfamiliar and tiring, and new impressions come every day. The calming effect of swaddling is especially helpful for babies who cry a lot and provides relief for both you and your baby. Swaddling only takes a few minutes and is suitable for both summer and winter.
Swaddled babies often sleep longer and more peacefully than unswadled babies because they are less likely to wake up with their own arm movements. The feeling of security also makes them feel more comfortable on their backs, and they readily assume this position. It's the perfect sleep aid.
A swaddle blanket is an essential part of your baby's layette and has the advantage of also being usable as a changing mat, a light blanket, or simply as sun protection for the stroller. It's therefore very versatile and can also be used as a burp cloth. It's also quick to wash and is usually available in many different designs in packs of two or three.
A swaddle sack is just as practical, and swaddling is especially quick. Swaddle sacks have an elasticated waistband without Velcro that is pulled up to the shoulders. This gently secures the arms while allowing the legs plenty of freedom of movement. However, a special swaddle sack wraps the child less tightly than a swaddle blanket. For particularly restless or crying babies, you should therefore opt for a blanket instead. There are also models that can be used as both a swaddle and a sleeping bag. These versions have snaps at the arm openings. This allows you to convert the swaddle sack into a sleeping bag after the swaddling stage and continue using it. Unsure which is right for your baby? Try both and find the perfect solution.
Dress your baby in light clothing and wrap them in the swaddle blanket so that their arms are close to their body. Ask your midwife for the correct swaddling techniques. Always pay attention to whether your baby wants to be swaddled and that they are not wrapped too tightly. The fabric should never cover the baby's face.
We've all been there – sometimes a little mess happens during mealtimes. Annoying and a laundry day? Not so bad! That's where a burp cloth comes in handy. It keeps baby clothes cleaner for longer. Plus, burp cloths are indispensable for soothing drool during teething and are perfect for every little burp. These durable cloths are easy to care for and ideal for everyday family life. A little tip: always keep several burp cloths on hand!
